You Have Questions, We Have Answers

Glacier National Park is located in northern Montana, with a small portion of the park located in Canada (Waterton Lakes). Glacier has 3 main entrances with different opening and closing dates each year. Check the road opening and closing dates while planning and before you arrive for the latest status.

West Entrance

  • Glacier Park International Airport (FCA)– in Kalispell, Montana is about 30 miles from the West Entrance. This is the closest international airport.
  • Missoula Airport (MSO) – in Missoula, Montana is about 130 miles from the West Entrance.

East Entrance

  • Great Falls international Airport (GTF) – in Great Falls, Montana is about 140 miles from the East Entrance.
  • Lethbridge Airport (YQL) – in Alberta, Canada is about 77 miles from the East Entrance but requires international travel.

Yes. An entrance fee (pass) is required to enter Glacier National Park. You are encouraged to purchase this before arriving to save time, but you may also purchase passes at any entrance station upon arrival. Fees and pass types, including costs, can be found here. All visitors, including guests of our lodges, must purchase a park pass from the National Park Service, which is not included in our lodging or tour reservations.

Yes. You can find more information on vehicle reservations by visiting the National Park Service website.

Yes! Xanterra Travel Collection® operates 5 hotels that are located inside the park boundaries (Village Inn at Apgar, Lake McDonald Lodge, Rising Sun Motor Inn & Cabins, Many Glacier Hotel, and Swiftcurrent Motor Inn & Cabins). We also operate one hotel, Cedar Creek Lodge, outside of the park, 18 miles from the West Entrance in Columbia Falls, Montana.

Glacier National Park is a year-round park, however, the lodges and tours are only open/running between May-September each year. The seasonal dates vary year-to-year.

Cell service is limited and can be spotty depending on your location in the park. Check with your provider to verify coverage. During peak season, the number of users can overwhelm the system, making texting the most effective means of communication.

Wi-Fi is available for overnight guests in some lodges but is much slower than typical residential, business, or workplace service. Information on guest Wi-Fi and connectivity can be found here. Free public Wi-Fi is available at the Apgar Visitor Center and St. Mary’s Visitor Center.

Overall, while cell service and internet access are available in some parts of Glacier, they should not be relied on as your only means of communicating, researching, and navigating the park.

Summers are pleasant with temperatures ranging from 60°-80°F with cooler temperatures at higher elevations. This is the peak season for visitors, with long days perfect for hiking and exploring. However, weather can change rapidly, so it’s advisable to bring layers and rain gear.

Spring in Glacier National Park can be unpredictable. While snow begins to melt in mid-spring, many areas can remain snowy and muddy. The opening of the Going to the Sun Road can vary year to year. For current updates on Road Conditions visit the National Park Service website.

Fall brings cooler average temperatures and the possibility of early snow. The lodges in Glacier open and close on a rolling basis, based on location within the park.
Please check the National Park’s weather page for current conditions and forecasts.

The lodges inside the park do not offer a business center, unfortunately. Cedar Creek Lodge, however, does have a 24-hour business center that offers free Wi-Fi, printer and a fax machine.

No. There are no fueling stations within Glacier’s boundaries.

Cancellations do occur; however, they can occur at random, which could result in limited success in obtaining the dates and accommodations you desire. If your first choice is not available, rather than scheduling your vacation around the possibility of a cancellation, we suggest checking alternate dates instead. Reservations made by phone will eventually show up online once the guest has created an online profile.

Xanterra Travel Collection® is committed to reducing our contribution to global warming. Current efforts include reductions in energy and water consumption through carpooling, modifications in operational vehicle use, energy efficient lighting and other electrical appliances, and support from guests with limiting use of room heaters, using water conservation measures, not idling vehicles, and participation in other housekeeping related conservation strategies. In addition, guests can support the carpooling effort by booking a Red Bus Tour or by using one of the parks Shuttle Buses to explore the park.

How You Can Help:

  • Reuse bath towels to reduce the volume of water and energy used to clean them.
  • Enjoy a beautiful ride in a historic Red Bus or take one of the free National Park Service shuttles instead of driving your own vehicle.
  • Limit your use of plastics by using environmentally friendly and reusable containers.
  • Refill reusable containers at one of our free hydration bottle-filling stations.
